Costs & Guidelines

To decide on how much training you would need to reach test standard, we advise that you sit an assessment. Drivers ability and experience differ, so the following will give you a guide on the costs involved:

All course prices are based on 1 person and include the DVSA test fee – £115 (Mon-Fri), the test fee is £141 for a Saturday test (subject to availability) therefore please add £26 to the course prices if a test is required on a Saturday. The test fee is payable directly to the DVSA via Jack’s Driving School and as such is bound by the Terms & Conditions of the DVSA, www.gov.uk

Rules & Guidelines

The licensing rules are complicated. The following points will aid your decision as to whether you require sitting the B+E test for your particular trailer or caravan. If you have any doubts please contact us, we will be pleased to help.

You may drive a vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to 7.5 tonnes or a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes and a trailer up to 750Kg max total 8.25 tonnes.

You may drive a vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to 3.5 tonnes or a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes and a trailer up to 750Kg max total 4.25 tonnes.

You may drive a vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to 3.5 tonnes.

The above figures are based on the maximum absolute mass (MAM) of both trailer and car! For example, an unladen trailer might weigh 1 tonne however it might have a MAM of 3 tonnes, it is the MAM you must use in your calculations. Just because it is empty does not mean you are within the legal weights.
